President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced that China’s Export–Import Bank (EXIM) has agreed to provide a new loan in Chinese Yuan to restart the Mirigama–Kadawatha stretch of the Central Expressway project, which was previously stalled due to Sri Lanka’s bankruptcy. The Cabinet is expected to approve the loan next week. The government is also in talks with the Chinese contractor for compensation regarding damaged equipment and plans to secure further investment to begin work on the Galagedera–Kandy section next year. The President stated that other halted development projects will also be revived this year.
