The opening of the highly anticipated lighting project for the famous Demodara Nine-Arch Bridge has been postponed indefinitely, the Central Cultural Fund (CCF) announced.
The delay stems from ongoing issues with installing the necessary electricity cables through private land surrounding the historic site. Landowners have objected to the planned route for the cables required to power the transformer intended to illuminate the bridge and its surrounding tourist zone.
CCF Director General Dr. Nilankure stated that while an alternative cable plan is being prepared, it remains a technically challenging task. The project, a joint initiative between the CCF and the Railway Department to boost tourism, was initially scheduled for completion this month but now lacks a new opening date.
