‘Rividanavi’ Solar Power Park: Construction begins of Sri Lanka’s largest renewable energy project

Project news5 months ago1.1K Views

Construction has officially commenced on the “Rividanavi” Solar Power Park in Siyambalanduwa, marking a significant step toward Sri Lanka’s goal of generating 70% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. The project, inaugurated by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, is set to become the nation’s largest renewable energy initiative, with a 100 MW capacity and an investment of USD 140 million.

Located on 500 acres in Monaragala District, the solar park will add 219 GWh to the national grid annually, saving Sri Lanka an estimated Rs. 21 billion per year in foreign exchange on diesel imports. In a pioneering move for a private-sector energy project in the country, the developers, a joint venture between Lakdhanavi Ltd. and WindForce PLC, will also construct a 27-kilometer transmission system and a new 132 kV grid substation. The project also includes a 12 MWh battery storage facility to support grid stability and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 150,000 metric tonnes annually. Construction is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027.
