UDA to Develop ‘Frolic Island’ Recreational Hub Along Diyawanna Oya
The Urban Development Authority (UDA) has initiated plans for the “Frolic Island Recreational Hub”, a new leisure and public recreation project along both banks of the Diyawanna Oya in the Battaramulla area.
A total of nine land plots covering 13.57 acres have been earmarked for development under this project. The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to invite international investment proposals through a competitive bidding process, following government procurement guidelines. Under this arrangement, the identified plots will be leased to investors who will develop recreational and leisure facilities on the site.
In preparation for the development, the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation has completed flood prevention and wetland enhancement work near the Waters Edge Hotel along the Diyawanna Oya. These improvements are expected to bolster the sustainability and usability of the site for future recreational use.
