Survey launched on incomplete housing projects In North – East

Project news5 hours ago2K Views

The Sri Lankan Government has launched a survey to assess incomplete government housing projects in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, with the objective of accelerating the completion of long-delayed residential developments. The initiative aims to identify the current status of stalled housing schemes and prioritize their completion.

According to Deputy Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply T. B. Sarath, approximately 6,000 housing units were initiated under previous government programmes, but many projects were abandoned during the early stages of construction. The government intends to revive these projects and deliver the remaining housing units to beneficiaries as quickly as possible.

In support of this effort, the Deputy Minister also announced that the government is planning to increase funding for the housing sector by proposing to double the allocation for housing projects in next year’s national budget. The move is expected to strengthen the delivery of affordable housing and accelerate the completion of unfinished public infrastructure projects.
