The Cabinet of Ministers has awarded a contract to Maga Engineering Ltd. for three construction packages of the Central Expressway Project. The company was identified as the lowest responsive bidder for the section of the expressway from Pothuhara to Galagedara, which is part of stage 1, part 3 of the project. This decision was based on recommendations from the high-level standing procurement committee.
Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa stated that the delayed third phase of the expressway is now being funded by the state after Japan withdrew its financial support. The contract with Maga Engineering includes essential remaining works such as laying the aggregate base and asphalt, installing road markings and signboards, and constructing operational buildings and toll systems. The Central Expressway is a key national infrastructure project designed to enhance connectivity between Colombo, Kurunegala, Kandy, and the Central Province.
