Port City Colombo Completes All Essential Utility Infrastructure
Port City Colombo (PCC) has achieved a major development milestone by completing all its essential utility infrastructure projects, effectively paving the way for further development within the Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
According to Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Udaya Nanayakkara, Project Director of Port City Colombo, the full supply systems for water, electricity, wastewater treatment, and waste disposal are now finalized.
Key Infrastructure Highlights:
Underground Utility Tunnel: For the first time in Sri Lanka, an underground utility tunnel has been built to house and manage most of these services, a design choice aimed at enhancing efficiency and simplifying long-term maintenance.
Full Recycling System: The city is expected to generate about 380 tons of waste daily, all of which will be fully recycled within the city itself.
Green & Blue SEZ: PCC integrates advanced sustainability practices, aligning with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles to position itself as Sri Lanka’s first “Green and Blue” Special Economic Zone.
Chinese Embassy Economic and Commercial Counsellor, Tang Yandi, hailed the Port City as a symbol of shared prosperity between Sri Lanka and China. Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma noted that the government has introduced new legislation and cleared bottlenecks to accelerate the project, reinforcing its role as a key driver of foreign investment.
