Land Dispute Delays Iconic Nine-Arch Bridge Lighting Project
The highly anticipated lighting project for the iconic Demodara Nine-Arch Bridge has been postponed from October to November 2025 due to a land dispute.
The delay occurred because private landowners refused permission for the installation of essential power lines needed for the bridge’s illumination. The project, a joint initiative by the Central Cultural Fund (CCF) and the Department of Railways, aims to create a dedicated tourist zone. Authorities are now working to reroute the electricity lines to keep the initiative on track and complete the first phase next month. Once open, visitors will be charged an entry fee.
