COPE Probes Prolonged Delays in East Container Terminal (ECT) Project
The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) has launched an extensive probe into the prolonged delays surrounding the construction of the East Container Terminal (ECT) at the Colombo Port.
The issue was discussed during a COPE meeting on November 13, which examined the Auditor General’s Reports for 2022 and 2023 and the performance of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA). The committee highlighted that Cabinet approval for a Rs. 40,273 million contract for the ECT development was granted back in November 2021. COPE raised serious concerns over the lack of progress and the circumstances that have contributed to the significant setback of this critical project.
