The Central Environmental Authority has confirmed that environmental clearance has not been granted for the proposed cable car project at Sri Pada. Director General Kapila Rajapaksha stated that no official environmental approval has been issued for the project at the sacred and environmentally sensitive site.
The clarification was made in response to growing public discussion regarding plans to introduce a cable car system as part of efforts to improve tourism infrastructure and accessibility to Sri Pada. The proposal had previously attracted attention as a potential tourism development initiative.
The statement from the CEA indicates that the project has not yet met the necessary environmental regulatory requirements. Any future development at the site would require comprehensive environmental evaluation and formal approval before construction activities could proceed.
